Global   super-hard materials "made in Henan" : With a production capacity   share of nearly 80%, the initial shape of a world-class industrial center is   emerging

In   the global manufacturing landscape, super-hard materials, as the   "teeth" of modern industry and a key support for high-end   manufacturing, have become an important indicator for measuring a country's   advanced manufacturing capabilities. In the core area of this   technology-intensive industrial chain, Henan Province is quietly shaping a   new pattern of the world's super-hard materials with its astonishing   industrial scale and agglomeration effect. China's overall output of   synthetic diamonds accounts for over 95% of the global total, almost forming   a monopolistic supply. The vast majority of this production capacity is   concentrated in Henan Province, the heartland of Central China, which has   transformed from a traditional agricultural powerhouse into a world-class   highland for new materials.

In   terms of production capacity and global status, Henan has obvious advantages.   Its output of synthetic diamonds accounts for nearly 80% of the global total,   and China's output of synthetic diamonds accounts for over 95% of the global   total. Henan has become the core area for the production of superhard   materials worldwide. The output of cubic boron nitride (CBN) accounts for 95%   of the national total, and the output of cultivated diamonds accounts for   over 50% of the global total, among which Henan Province accounts for 80%.   Moreover, Henan has established a complete industrial chain, with an   independent supporting rate of over 90%. Characteristic industrial clusters   have been formed in Zhengzhou High-tech Zone, Nanyang, Xuchang, Shangqiu and   other places, gathering more than 1,800 enterprises.

Technological   innovation and breakthroughs are also highlights of Henan's super-hard   materials industry. Key technologies have achieved independent control. The   self-developed six-sided top press has enabled large-scale production of   synthetic diamonds. The high-end application has broken the foreign monopoly,   and the achievements in the expansion of functional materials are remarkable.   Meanwhile, relying on institutions such as the Zhengzhou Third Grinding   Research Institute and the Harbin Institute of Technology Zhengzhou Research   Institute, the average annual growth rate of R&D investment has been   34.5% over the past five years, and more than a hundred breakthroughs have   been achieved in multiple fields.

Policy-driven   development and industrial upgrading are also advancing simultaneously. Henan   Province has listed super-hard materials as the top of the 28 key industrial   chains, with the provincial Party secretary serving as the chain leader. It   has launched a three-year action plan, aiming to achieve an industrial scale   of over 100 billion yuan by 2025. In addition, the Henan Province Superhard   Materials Association was established to regulate the market order, and a   cultivated diamond trading center was set up to enhance international pricing   power.

However,   this industry is also facing some challenges. High-end products still rely on   imports, and the downstream application extension is insufficient. The global   market share of high value-added products is only 40%. In the future, Henan's   superhard materials industry will break through the bottleneck of high-end   applications through transformation paths such as functional breakthroughs   and green manufacturing, and expand its global say in the semiconductor and   new energy fields.
